Adrian Spencer

Coach and Mentor

Expertise
I have supported and guided hundreds of people  from redundancy to recovery over a number of years now. I differentiate myself from many coaches due to my extensive leadership and change experience, having operated at Director level in diverse and challenging organisations for nearly 2 decades. I find this allows me to bring out the mentor side of my skill set, such that I can not only coach people, but also help guide them to successful outcomes by calling on my industry experience. Its a balance my clients repeatedly tell me works.

Qualifications

I am qualified to career coach up to Executive level having trained at the British School of Coaching gaining the ILMs (Institute of Leadership & Management) top accreditation (Level 7).

Ethical standards

All our conversations will be conducted on the basis of total confidentiality. I am an Associate of the European Mentoring & Coaching Council (EMCC) and as a professional job and career coach I abide by their Global Code of Ethics.

A bit more about me

My background is in the Insurance, Legal and Consultancy sectors where as a Director I led large teams of people and operated for many years on senior leadership Boards. The most enjoyable elements of my career were developing my people and this made the move to become a professional coach an obvious and exciting decision. I live in Winchester in Hampshire with my lovely wife and have 2 grown up children and an old doggy!

A redundancy confession

Since around 2008 I spent a significant number of years running redundancy programmes within the Insurance and Legal sectors as organisations moved to reduce their cost base in a turbulent economic climate. I can very clearly recall the emotions of people who I had to let go and it was never pleasant nor satisfying. Eventually all of these cost reduction programmes caught up with me and I too was let go. It was at this point that I fully understood the emotions and stress that comes with such a lifetime event. I was lucky to have a coach who supported me in reinvigorating my confidence levels, encouraging me to develop my brand and USPs and helping me to interview with impact. It wasn't long before I was back in work again, however, it was at this point I realised that I wanted to be that coach, to be that person.

I'm in that place now, and its the best job I've ever had.
